THERAPEUTIC EFFECTIVENESS OF ELECTROCHEMICAL THERAPY OF SUPERFICIAL TUMOURS
XIN Yu-Ling (Department of Thoracic Surgery, China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Beijing 100029, China)

INTRODUCTION In seventies Professor Nordenström treated 20 cases of lung cancers successfully with direct electric current after a long period of experimental work. He put. forth the theory of Biological Closed Electrical Circuit (BCEC) in his manuscript. On the basis of the above mentioned experiences, Electrochemical Therapy (ECT) has been developed in the Department. From 1987 to 1996, 7045 cases of various kinds of tumours have been treated with this method in more than one thousand hospitals in China.

In past ten years, there were 957 cases of various kinds of tumours treated with ECT in the Hospital. Among them 595 cases were visceral tumours (360 cases of lung cancer, I56 cases of liver cancer and 79 cases of oesophageal cancer), and 362 cases superficial tumours, including 320 cases of malignant tumours and 42 cases of benign tumours. The treatment of 362 cases of superficial tumours is reported in the paper.

CLINICAL DATA      Among the 362 cases, 245 cases were male and 117 cases female with an age range of 4 months old to 93 years old. The average age was 50.5 years. (Table 1)
